Somewhere along the line I bought a Southern Cookbook titled Deep South Parties. Â I really like this book. Â It is all appetizers. Â There are so many interesting recipes to try that I have barely scratched the surface in this book. Â This was party of our Cajun themed birthday party (Gumbo). Â These Fiery Cheese Straws are so easy to make and everyone raved about them. Â So note to self, don’t tell people how easy they are to make.
You basically throw flour and cheddar cheese into the Cuisinart and pulse until it blends. Â I did have to add a little vegetable oil and some water to get to the right consistency. Â And I don’t think you can have enough cayenne pepper.
Recipe
Fiery Cheese Straws:
Ingredients:

- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of softened butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp creole seasoning
- 2 tsp hot sauce
- Process all ingredients in a food processor for about 30 seconds; don’t over process, just mix until a ball is formed
- Dust a surface with flour and roll the dough out to about 1/4″ thickness; cut into 4 – 5″ straws and 1/2″ wide
- Place on an un-greased baking sheet and bake for 8 – 10 minutes. Â Serve hot.
