As you have read before, I love to carry a theme through a meal.  In this case, the main course was Buffalo Chicken Burgers.  The burgers had carrots, celery, tabasco and blue cheese mixed in to the patties.  Naturally, the dressing for the salad needed to be a blue cheese dressing.  I used fat free yogurt as the base liquid in this recipe.  Allow me to digress.  With all the cooking shows I watch, I am surprised, and even dismayed at, why don’t they show us ways to get the taste without all the fat.  There is a place for butter, heavy cream, etc.  But there are so many substitutes or places we can substitute ingredients without losing the essence of the dish.

I share this because I have been using fat free yogurt more and more.  I love creamy dressings but really tried to limit how often I let myself have them.  Finding fat-free yogurt has brought back creamy dressings back to my life and you can too.

Salad in bowl 500

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 8 oz fat-free Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/8 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

In a mason jar, add the yogurt, milk, and spices. Shake well.  Season to taste with salt and pepper.  Finish by adding in the blue cheese.

dressing 500

I added the milk in slowly until I was satisfied with my consistency.  Enjoy!

Thx. On my way to check out your site. Search the site for other salad dressings if you are looking for low fat ideas.
