With Valentines Day approaching, I need to step up the red posts. Â Nothing easier and tastier than making red velvet cakes. Â In this recipe, I turn the cake into donuts. Â You can use the exact same recipe and the best thing about it is that the donuts are baked. Â Keeps it healthier and you really can’t tell the difference. Â I guess if you are being technical, the actual donut is a little airier than a fried donut.
I also wanted to change up the traditional cream cheese frosting and I made a chocolate glaze. Â Now in my family, we are chocolate fans anyways. Â This is really good combination.
Recipe
Red Velvet Donuts with Chocolate Glaze:
Ingredients:
(I used a box for the cake – follow the directions on the box)
- 1 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2.5 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
Directions:
Combine butter, milk, corn syrup, and vanilla in a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat until butter is melted.  Decrease the heat to low, add the chocolate, and whisk until melted.  Turn off heat, add the confectioners’ sugar, and whisk until smooth.  Dunk donuts into glaze and let sit on a rack until it sets.  Enjoy!
