Quasi – Reuben Sandwich

The beauty of my bread making is that it is a lead in to the sandwich of the weekend.  Now, I don’t want to be chauvinistic but my sandwiches have Dagwood’s name all over them.  I can’t stop with just one type of meat.  I can’t stop with just one topping and it certainly would not be complete without a signature dressing.

So this sandwich is a quasi-Reuben.  It’s has the corn beef and Russian dressing (made with fat free yogurt – don’t tell Dagwood).  But I added roast beef, chicken, melted cheese and used cole slaw in lieu of sauerkraut.

Recipe
Quasi-Reuben Sandwich:
Russian Dressing:
Ingredients:

1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
1 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp onion powder
1/2 tsp ground dry mustard
4 drops hot sauce
1/2 tsp horseradish
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp whole milk
2 gerken sweet pickles chopped
Directions:
Combine all ingredients and mix well

Quasi-Reuben Sandwich Ingredients:

  • 2 slices each roast beef, corn beef and chicken
  • shredded slaw 6 slices jalapeno jack cheese
  • handful of cole slaw
  • generous amount of Russian dressing
  • 2 slices Amish bread
Directions:
Spread butter on one side of the bread and grill in a saute pan until golden brown.  Spread Russian dressing on both sides of bread.  Cover one piece of bread with the jalapeno cheese and bake in the oven until full melted (I added a handful shredded monterey and cheddar to add to the melt).  Assemble sandwich.  I bought a bag of slaw and mixed it into a 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1/8 cup white wine vinegar, 1 tsp oregano and salt and paper to taste.  Topped the sandwich with the slaw.  Enjoy.

I never added milk to sandwich dressings. But your combo sounds really tasty. I think I will try it. The sandwich looks delish! Thank you for sharing 🙂
