My wife and I were going to a cookie exchange party – everybody brought cookies to brunch for everyone else to take home.  Someone, who will go nameless, had to break into the bags early and give some of the cookies a try.  Wonder who?

This is a great recipe for the holidays.  So I wanted to share these in time for the upcoming holidays as well as to share with the wonderful ladies of the FB Fill The Cookie Jar group.

I had the idea to put different candy bars inside the cookie.  So I needed a versatile cookie that would compliment the candy choices.  I made a sugar cookie but added some brown sugar for a little twist.  I inserted Belgian chocolate and mini-bag of Hershey’s chocolates.  That way it would be a surprise what you got with your cookie.

Recipe
Holiday Sugar Cookies :
Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp each baking soda and salt
  • Assortment of candy – Hershey’s Dark Chocolate, Crackel and Reese’s cut in half
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar – we used a hand mixer because we tripled the recipe.  Add the egg yolks and vanilla and mix well.  In a separate bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and pour into the wet mixture slowly.  Using your hand mixture, mix well.
Grease or spray a cookie sheet.  Take a scoop of the dough and form into a good ball with your hands.  Place on the cookie sheet and push your candy of choice deep into the center of the cookie.  Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 – 12 minutes.   Enjoy!

Have to be careful to not eat all the candy before you are done making the dessert!
