Friday Five – Americana

Today’s theme for my Friday Five is Mom, apple pie and Chevrolet.  In other words, I am focused on bringing you traditional American dishes.  This is perfect for the fall weather and cozying up to a nice fire.

So we begin our meal with French Onion Soup from Sixty One 45.  Wait a minute, you say this is not American and it even says French in the name.  I grew up with this.  I think it is like French Fries.  French is only in the name.  This may not be true but I am sticking to it.

I give you a drink to go with your soup, well not exactly a drink but very American.  How about the new Jim Beam Ghost (alright, I must admit.  I am drinking a jack Daniels while I write this.  So it is clear that I am not being paid for this inclusion).
Drink Spirits has an early review of Jim Beam Jacob's Ghost White Whiskey
Alright, I am getting closer to home with this main course offering – Chicken Pot Pie from Cooking Classy with a sprinkle of fancy.  Chicken Pot Pie is underrated in my book.  When it is done right, it is so comforting.

It is hard to pair a traditional American dish with Chicken Pot Pie since it has all food groups in it.  I also could not find a salad I liked.  So how about a Twice Baked Potato (lightened up) from Peas & Crayons.

Based on my lead in, the dessert should be very obvious.  You guessed it – Apple Pie.  I hope mom doesn’t feel left out, and no, there is no Chevrolet in my garage.  I present Apple Pie from Cannella Vita.
