The reason this recipe uses chicken sausage is because I do not eat pork.  I have found working with either ground turkey or ground chicken may be better than pork or beef because those proteins absorb the spices so much better.  Absorb is not the right verb but the meat has less flavor so the spice added is so much more apparent in the recipe.  I also found turkey pepperoni at my local Jewel store that has a big Kosher section.  I did not know there was such a product but love it as it reminds me of the pepperoni I loved and used to eat.

These sliders are so much fun.  Who doesn’t like a slider?  Who doesn’t like a pizza.  So when the two are combined, it is not a double negative but a double positive.  Is that even a thing?  I say it is.  So if you are looking for slider ideas for the holidays, I have some other recipes I like as well.  Another super fun slider I have made is this TURKEY CHEESEBURGER TATER TOT.  If you want to be a little fancier, then try these FLANK STEAK SLIDERS.

The Chicken Sausage Pepperoni Pizza Slider is super easy to put together.  You can either spice your own turkey or buy turkey sausages and reform them into a patty.  I cooked the chicken sausage patties in a cast iron skillet.  This gets a real nice browning on them.  I used KINGS HAWAIIAN HOT DOG ROLES and then cut them in half.  I love the buttery-ness of these rolls.  They definitely need to be baked first so they get crusty.  The sliders do not need much time in the oven once assembled.  They only need enough time to melt the cheeses.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Lbs Chicken Sausage
  • 1/4 Lb Turkey Pepperoni
  • 8 Whole Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns
  • 1/2 Lb Mozzarella
  • 1/4 Cup Pizza Sauce

Instructions

  1. Begin by baking the buns at 325 degrees until browned - about 3 - 4 minutes.  Cut the buns in half.

At the same time, form the chicken sausage into patties.  Add to a skillet on medium high heat and cook 3 - 4 minutes per side.  Remove from heat.

Now begin assembling the sliders.  Begin with a piece of mozzarella followed by a dollop of pizza sauce.  Next, top with the chicken sausage patty.  Repeat the mozzarella slice and pizza sauce again.  Place on the top bun and top with another slice of the mozzarella and a piece of the pepperoni.   Finish by placing in a 325 degree oven and cook until the cheese melts.

    Serve and enjoy!
