Who says you can’t add spice to your desserts?  I am actually not sure if I have done it before but I must have done so.

This Spicy Strawberries and Cream is really easy to put together.  There are only two pieces to this dessert.  There is the strawberries and there is cream.  The strawberries are cooked down with sugar and with a dried chili arbol.  The chili arbol is roasted in a skillet to release its oils.  Then, it is chopped up and blended with the sugar and lemon and finished by reducing the strawberries into a compliment of strawberries and syrup.

Now, I generally go for chocolate when it comes to dessert but I do enjoy fruit.  I have significantly limited the desserts I eat and limit my sugar intake.  I do like the idea of a fruit dessert because you get great taste and sweetness.  Some example of fruit desserts I have made include this APRICOT AND STRAWBERRY SEMIFREDO which is really good and very light.  How about these HOLIDAY LINZER COOKIES filled with raspberries. These PEAR TARTS are as pretty as they are tasty.  One final favorite is my UPSIDE DOWN BANANA CHERRY COFFEE CAKE.

The sweetness of the strawberries are balanced with cream cheese and yogurt combination.  Next time I make this dessert, I would add some sweetness to the cream cheese and yogurt mixture.  When I do dessert, I want something sweet.  The fruit is not overly sweet so the cream cheese mixture needs a little something.  I really like the look and textures of this dessert.

  1. Begin by combining the cream cheese and yogurt. Mix well and set aside.

Meanwhile, toast the arbol chili in a skillet on medium heat for 2 minutes. Remove and chop up to get the seeds. In the same skillet, combine the seeds, sugar, lemon juice and mix well.
