A couple of weeks ago, I was posting about the Middle Eastern dinner I created for my office party. This beef kofta was one of the two main dishes I created. I needed a beef dish to balance with my chicken shawarma. I have never made beef kofta but I certainly have eaten it at restaurants and really enjoyed it. The flavors in this are quite good. I would hike them up a notch next time by adding even more of the spices but that is my taste buds.
INGREDIENTS (adapted from Saveur):
16 oz. ground beef
2 tbsp. finely chopped parsley
2 tbsp. finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes
2 tbsp. cayenne pepper
¼ tsp. ground allspice
¾ tsp. dried mint
½ tsp. ground cumin
½ tsp. ground coriander
¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
½ medium yellow onion, finely diced
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together beef, parsley, tomatoes, cayenne, allspice, mint, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, onions, salt, and pepper.
Form into oval shaped patties and place on a broiling pan.
Cook for 12 – 14 minutes. Finish, by turning on your broiler to high and broil each side of the kofta for 1 – 2 minutes – just until it gets a char on it.
Obviously, these were made in the winter in the Midwest. Other times of the year, I would make these on the grill.
Serve with garlic sauce and enjoy!
