The inspiration for this Indian Paneer Curry Burger was developing different recipes using the Yellow Curry Sauce I made.  The yellow curry sauce has such amazing flavor.  It is so easy to make and I always whip up a batch with extra to use for multiple dishes.  On Monday, I posted a recipe for SPINACH YELLOW CURRY LENTILS.  This lentil recipe was a vegan option using the yellow curry.

Indian Paneer Curry Burger

Today I bring you a yellow curry dish with meat.  I am doing a little Indian American fusion by taking Indian flavors and marrying them with a traditional American favorite.  I actually used the curry in two ways.  I mixed it with coconut milk and then worked into the ground turkey to infuse the ground meat with a deep flavor.  I also mixed it with mayonnaise and olive oil to make an aioli that I put on top of the burger creation.

The learning in this is to play with your leftovers.  As you read in the prior paragraph, I used the yellow curry sauce in two unique ways to make a totally original recipe.  I also topped the Indian burger with a nice thick slice of paneer.  Paneer is Indian cheese.  I had bought a big block of paneer because my wife loves paneer.   I made her a PAN FRIED CURRY PANEER as an appetizer.  In this recipe, I pan fried a thick slice and finished off the top of the burger with it.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Lbs Ground Turkey
  • 3 Tbsp Yellow Curry Sauce divided
  • 1/4 Cup Coconut Milk
  • 2 Tbsp Curry Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Mayonnaise
  • 4 Whole Wheat Buns
  • 4 Slices Paneer
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil divided
  • 4 Pieces Cabbage

Instructions

  1. Combine the mayo, 1 Tbsp of olive oil and 1 Tbsp of the curry sauce and mix well. Set aside.

Take the 2 Tbsp of the curry sauce and coconut and mix well.  Add to the ground turkey and mix well.  Form into burgers and liberally season with the curry powder.

Cook the burgers on your outdoor grill on medium heat for 5 minutes per side. Bring inside and let rest 1 - 2 minutes.  In the last minute of cooking, place the buns on the grill and brown for 1 minute.

While the burgers are cooking, heat a skillet with 1 Tbsp of the olive oil on medium heat and pan fry the paneer for about 2 minutes per side.  Cook until you have a nice browning of the paneer.

To assemble the burger, begin by placing the cabbage on the bottom bun.  Next, top with the burger, then the aioli and finish with the paneer.

    Serve and enjoy!
