I think people think making their own BBQ sauce is hard.  This is one of those items that we all really search the grocery store aisle for to find our favorite brand.  I know I used to.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  There are still times when I am in a hurry and just want to run to the fridge for some BBQ sauce but it really does not take that long to make the sauce.  The time is in the simmering and this step can be finessed if necessary.  I had just watched the Food Networks new show The Shed (he’s funny and she’s cute) and they make their BBQ very sweet in Mississippi.  So I decided that I was going to make my sauce more sweet than I usually do.  It was, is, really good.  I am going to have to make this one again.

Q sauce 1 500

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 – 29 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1 – 12 oz can of tomato paste
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup each light & dark brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tbsp mustard powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

Put all the ingredients into a sauce pan.  Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.  Simmer for 2 hours.  I served it warm.  Enjoy!
