Today was a day of smoking various meats. Â So I needed a BBQ sauce that would go well with lamb, ground beef and chicken. Â This recipe is strong enough to stand up to the lamb but sweet enough to enhance the chicken.
Recipe
Whiskey BBQ Sauce (Adapted from Smoke & Spice):
- In a sauce pan, melt 4 tbsp of butter on medium heat and add 1/2 diced yellow onion and saute until soft – about 5 minutes
- Mix in the following ingredients, 3/4 cup of Makers Mark Whiskey, 2/3 cup of ketchup, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, 2 fresh squeezed oranges with the zest of 1 orange, 1/2 cup of pure maple syrup, 1/3 cup of molasses, 2 tbsp of worcestershire, 1/2 tsp of black pepper and the kicker – 2 dried red chilis.
- Simmer on low for 40 – 60 minutes stirring frequently
- I like thicker sauce so I added 1 tbsp corn starch mixed into 1/2 cup of cold water and added it to my sauce mixing well and simmering for another 10 minutes
