Do you ever consider how often onions are used in recipes? Onions add so much sweetness to any recipe.
People often ask me for the origin of my recipe ideas. My mind is constantly thinking about food and new ideas. I see a picture on INSTAGRAM or on FACEBOOK or I watch the FOOD CHANNEL or DINERS DRIVE-IN & DIVES and I have got to make it. Or I want to make my variation of the dish. When it comes to food, I feel I have a photographic memory. So I watch the recipes being made but I do not know the exact measurements used or all of the ingredients used. I just go for it, and generally, like the results.
The dish is so simple to prepare but the cooking method is where all the flavor comes from. I did use butter which I do not often do. The sweetness of the onions is really what brings the flavor to these burgers. These are turkey burgers so you need to bring other flavors to the party. One quick aside is that I used some fresh parsley – well sort of. I saw a trick to freeze your fresh herbs and use them in a dish when you are mixing them in as I did in this burger.
I love a good burger and have made quite a variety of them. One of my favorites is my MARSALA MUSHROOM CHEESEBURGERS. Or maybe, this MEXICAN TURKEY BURGER was my favorite. I could go on and on but here is a veggie burger – BLACK BEAN BURGER QUESADILLA. The burger is so all American and so versatile. These are only a few ideas and there are so many more burgers to conquer.

Grilled Onion Turkey Burger
Ingredients
- 2 Lbs Ground Turkey
- 2 Whole Yellow Onions sliced
- 2 Tsp Smoked sea salt
- 2 Tsp Ancho Chili powder
- 1 Tbsp Lemon Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Adobo seasoning
- 2 Tbsp Zach Bruell Pepper Sauce
- 3 Ounces Fresh parsley rough chopped
- 5 Slices Cheddar cheese
- 5 Slices Smoked gouda
- 1 Tbsp Olive oil
- 2 Tbsp Butter
Instructions
-
Combine all ingredients through the parsley and form into 5 hamburger patties.
Heat a cast iron skillet on medium heat. Add the oil and the butter, and once hot, add the turkey burgers and the onions. Cook for 5 - 6 minutes per side mixing the onions around. Once the burgers are cooked, alternately top each patty with either the smoked gouda or the cheddar cheese. Let rest for a minute.
To finish the burger, use your favorite gluten free bun. Add a piece of lettuce. Stack the burgers (We ate only one burger at a time) and top with as much of the onions as you will enjoy. I added BBQ sauce and pickles. Now that is a burger.
Serve and enjou.
