This Tuesday’s Cooking Tip how to cut bell peppers shares both how to cut a bell pepper and shows a couple of safety features as well. I love to use peppers in my cooking and add them to so many of my dishes. I also am a huge fan of Cajun food and green peppers are a staple of Cajun cooking. As we have been discussing in this Tuesday series, there are some basics we all just do not know when we start out cooking. The following pictures will show step by step taking you through a dice.
Stand the pepper up. Some people take a very small slice out of the bottom if the pepper is not flat to make sure it stands up.
The first slice is set just off the center core. Once you see the cuts, you will learn where the core of a bell pepper is. Notice how the knife is being held. The thumb and first finger press into the blade while the blade nests in the fold of your 2nd finger joint. Also notice, the angle of the knife. The knife is “not” flat with pepper.
When, the slice is made, the blade is rocked from front to back.
Next, place the pepper skin side down. This is important. If you try to cut a pepper through the skin, the knife will slip.
Finish by lining up a few of the slices and start your dice. Not how my fingers that hold the pepper slices are folded to ensure that I do not cut my fingers.
Good tutorial, thanks for sharing!!
