This post originates from Kitchen Play reaching out to its members to try Orchard Choice Fig jam. I think most bloggers agree that it is fun to sample products. It is fun to both try new flavors and to develop recipes around the product. I like figs and do not think they are often used in a lot of recipes. Figs have a naturally sweet flavor without being to sweet. Figs can be used for both sweet or savory recipes.

Orchard Choice Fig Jam
This recipe is very simple and takes no time to prepare. We were having friends over for dinner. I planned that we would sample a couple of the varieties of jam I was provided. The first flavor was fig and port wine. The theme of my meal was Spanish and the main course was a seafood paella. So I bought a couple of Spanish cheeses suggested by the Cheese manager at my local Heinen’s grocery store. She was really sweet and really knowledgeable. For this fig and port wine jam, I simply spread it on a cheese that I would describe as a Spanish brie cheese. The cheese was made from goat’s milk and was very creamy. It paired really well with the jam.
The second idea and the only recipe that took a minute to prepare utilized Orchard Choice Fig Jam and 2 aged manchego cheeses. The first was 3 months old and the second was 12 months old. I learned from my cheese expert that the younger the cheese is the creamier it is. As it ages, it hardens and the salts come out. This was fascinating and obvious to see and taste now that it was explained to me. I learned that it is the older cheeses, think Parmesan, that are used grated because of their hardness.
This recipe simply combined softened cream cheese with a mixture of each cheese blended in. I sliced some celery and filled there creavaces with this cheese cream cheese mixture. I then topped each celery stick with a generous amount of the fig jam. It was a well balanced appetizer. Simple yet tasty and visually pleasing.

I’ve gone and read this post 17 minutes before lunch and with no fig jam to be found. A boy can dream, though. This looks delicious.
