Exploring Chicago – Groupon

December 31, 2014 by Peter Block 2 Comments

Chicago is such an amazing city any time of year.  This post is created to show off our city but connect you with Groupon Chicago and their variety of offerings.  Consider this post a very small part of Exploring Chicago – Groupon.  At the holidays, it is even more beautiful and buzzing with lots of tourists.  The kids are home form College and we took the opportunity to spend the day downtown.  This was a great opportunity to spend time together, to eat and to see Chicago.  We began our excursion with lunch. My kids favorite pizza is Gino’s East.  We went to the original location on Superior Street, east of Michigan Avenue.  The true original building has been replaced with a newer, larger building but all the graffiti remains as a familiar reminder of the past.

After our pizza, we wondered over a block or so to see the new David Bowie exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art.   The David Bowie is a retrospective on a pioneering and extremely talented artist following in the footsteps of the other great rock band acts that came over as part of the London invasion including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and so many more.  The exhibit was created by London’s Victoria & Albert Museum – a must see when in London.

After finishing the tour of the David Bowie exhibit, we made our way South along the magnificent mile. The Mag Mile is truly one of the extraordinary streets in the world.  We peeked our heads in more than one store but checked out a new entry to Chicago – Dylan’s Candy Shop.  We sampled some fudge and bought some as well.  Check it out for really interesting flavor combinations.

Our next notable stop was to check out the Chicago Blackhawks renovated store located at 325 N. Michigan Avenue.  We are big Blackhawk fans in our family.  Look at the great picture we took (my daughter got cut off – sorry Molly) and looked who joined us for the picture – Coach Q.

We continued our way South to our ultimate objective of the new Maggie Daley Park.  I do not believe that there is a city in the world who has done a better job with its lakefront than Chicago.  The park just opened last month and is our newest improvement to our lakefront.  We wanted to see the ice rink which is one of the highlights in the new park.  To see all the different features of the park, check out this link.

We are not done yet.  We next ventured over to Lucky Strike for a game of bowling.  Our daughter beat her two brothers (but I won’t tell you she is 22 and used the bumpers).

Our final stop was a dinner in an area just west of River North.  We ate at a self described funky spot known as Thalia Spice.  It is a Pan-Asian restaurant offering foods from Japan, Thailand, the Phillipines and more.  It was really good and they had some quite unique dishes.

Can you believe how much we can do in a day?  I hope you enjoyed our day as much as we did.  Be sure to check out the Groupon Chicago to find great deals on food and things to do.
