OMG! These are so good. The inspiration for these Turkey Cheeseburger Tater Tots were found during my PINTEREST surfing during the Super Bowl. The recipe was developed by my blogging friends over at HOME MADE INTEREST. The recipe is such a guy thing but I guess so is the Super Bowl. A recipe that has tater tots as its base and topped with a burger. Go figure – who is NOT going to love it.
I thought the burger and the special sauce was so good that I have been planning on developing recipes to use it in other ways. First, the ground turkey (substituted for beef) is browned with the onions. When cooled, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and pickle relish are mixed in. Doesn’t that sound awesome? It is a CHICAGO DOG inside a burger. Anyone Chicagoan, knows s Chicago Dog does not have ketchup, just mustard and relish. The memory of the flavor of the Chicago dog just came to me as I wrote this post. No wonder I liked it so much.
The key to making this recipe work is to get the taters tots really crisp. The next time I try to make this recipe, I want to make the tater tot bowl even thinner. (I am also going to try using hash browns which naturally get crispy). It will be hard to overcook the tots. If they are really crisp, when they are filled with the ground beef mixture, they will not really continue to crisp. The other awesome thing about this recipe is the special sauce. It is a repeat of the mixture for the burgers with vinegar, granulated garlic and paprika added in. SO GOOD!

Turkey Cheeseburger Tater Tots
Turkey Burger Ingredients
- 48 Whole Tater Tots
- 1 Lb Ground Turkey
- 1 Whole Medium Spanish Onion diced
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 2 Tbsp Mustard
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp Relish
- 2 Tsp Salt
- 2 Tsp Black Pepper
- 3/4 Cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise
- 4 Tbsp Relish
- 2 Tbsp Mustard
- 1 Tbsp White Wine Vinegar
- 1 Tsp Paprika
- 1 Tsp Onion Powder
- 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Brown ground turkey and the onions in a skillet over medium high heat. Once meat has browned, drain the liquid and set aside and let cool. Add the mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and pickle relish to the ground turkey and onions and stir to combine. Add the salt and pepper.
While your browning the meat, use non-stick spray on a muffin pan and place three tater tots in each cup. Tamp down the tots so they look like a cup. Bake for 25 minutes.
Now the ground turkey mixture add to the tater tots and top with cheddar cheese. Add back to the oven and cook for another 5 - 10 minutes.
While the cheeseburger tots are in the oven, mix together all of the special sauce ingredients.
Remove the turkey cheeseburger tots from the oven.
Drizzle the special sauce over the cheeseburger tots and top with pickle slices.
Serve and enjoy!
