My Easy Pear Tart Recipe was an outcome of visiting a farmer’s market.  I can’t get to my local farmer’s market because it is on Shabbat and it is over by the time I get home from temple.  I was dropping a friend off one morning in Skokie – another north suburb of Chicago.  I love going to the grocery store but seeing and talking to the people that grow the product you are going to buy is amazing.  I walked up and down the aisles, what to buy?  I had to control myself to not buy so many things.  I had no bags or cart.  So I bought apples and pears.  I have never cooked with pears and I thought that pears would be fun to work with, especially in a tart.

Easy Pear Tart Recipe from Feed Your Soul Too

This pear tart starts with a homemade crust.  For those of you that think making a crust from start is a lot of work, I want you to see this recipe and how easy it comes together.  The crust has only 5 ingredients and is put together in 2 steps.  Just give it a try if you have ever worried that it is too hard to make.  When you do, you have to comment on this post and tell me that I was right and it was so worth it.

I am always a dessert lover, and normally, the dessert has to be chocolate.  I am growing up.  This dessert, is dare I say, sophisticated.  I think it is.  This dessert looks HOITY-TOITY.  What exactly does hoity-toity mean?  The British English dictionary says it is one acts as if he is better than others.  I think that is a good characterization of this pear tart.  I mean to be called a tart is so uppity, so upper class.  How could I even think of making a tart.  Well you know what?  It’s good.  It is really good.  It has a moderate amount of ingredients and the flavor comes from the natural flavor that occurs from the cooking of the pear.  So make this recipe and maybe don’t tell anyone or tell them I made you and send them to this blog.

Total Time 50 minutes

Servings 8 people

Ingredients

  • 1/2
    cup
    Butter
    room temperature
  • 1
    cup
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4
    tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2
    cup
    sugar
  • 1 1/2
    tbsp
    sugar
  • 1
    whole
    large egg
  • 2
    whole
    bosc pears
  • 1/4
    cup
    orange marmalade
  • 1
    tbsp
    fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350° F.

Butter a circular tart pan and set aside.

Combine the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl and set aside.

Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and 1/2 cup sugar at high speed in a large bowl. Lower speed to medium, add the egg, and beat until incorporated. Gradually add the flour mixture until fully incorporated. The dough will be very soft.

Push the dough into the pan with floured fingers to form an even crust. Arrange the pear halves, top to bottom, cut-side down. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and the remaining sugar. Bake until the crust is golden brown, about 45 minutes; let cool.

Heat the orange marmalade and lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, mixing until combined. Remove from heat and brush gently over the entire tart.

    Serve and enjoy.
