I recently posted my Easy Pear Tart Recipe.  I loved it.  The recipe was simple and SOOOOOOOOOOO good.  This Easy Apple Tart Recipe was made along side of the pear tart recipe.  I had a bounty of pears and apples from my trip to the farmer’s market.  The recipes are the same except for the fruit used.  I changed the look of each end product by using a circular tart pan for the pears but I created a free form rectangle for the apples.

Easy Apple Tart Recipe

I think the pear tart looks so cool because the pears kind of just pop out of the tart.  There is a circular design to this pear tart.  The apple tart is linear in its design.  I think the shape of the apple slices nicely balances the rectangular shape of the tart.  The apples are also angled up which highlights the apples.  I have enjoyed each tart.  Both tarts were covered with my marmalade jelly which meant there tastes were very similar.  You could taste the difference of the fruits but the fruit taste was muted by the jelly.

As I write this post, even though it was a late summer farmer’s market, it is between Christmas, Hannukah and New Years.  My kids are home from work and college.  The house is buzzing and it is so much fun.  As EMPTY NESTERS, my wife and I have found are new norm but we happily enjoy this “upset”.  The focus of this blog has always been about bringing people together.  I enjoy nothing more than making my childrens’ favorite dishes.  The most requested dish is my Macaroni N Cheese.  Tonight, however, my daughter introduced me and the family to butternut squash Macaroni N Cheese.  Isn’t that awesome.  I really enjoyed the squash Mac.  The flavor is quite deep and very earthy.  Now, I am trying to think what kind of main course recipes I can serve with this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/2
    Cup
    Unsalted Butter
  • 1
    Cup
    All-purpose Flour
  • 1/4
    Tsp
    Baking Powder
  • 1/2
    Cup
    Sugar
  • 1 1/2
    Tbsp
    Sugar
  • 1
    Whole
    Egg
  • 2
    Whole
    Apples
    Sliced
  • 1/4
    Cup
    Orange Marmalade
  • 1
    Tbsp
    Fresh Lemon Juice

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350° F.

Spray a rectangular baking tray and set aside.

Combine the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl and set aside.

Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and 1/2 cup sugar at high speed in a large bowl. Lower speed to medium, add the egg, and beat until incorporated. Gradually add the flour mixture until fully incorporated. The dough will be very soft.

Push the dough into the pan with floured fingers to form an even crust. Arrange the pear halves, top to bottom, cut-side down. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and the remaining sugar. Bake until the crust is golden brown, about 45 minutes; let cool.

Heat the Orange Marmalade and lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, mixing until combined. Remove from heat and brush gently over the entire tart. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

The quantity of the dough served for both my pear tart and this apple tart.
